New FSC Label Format

April 1, 2011

The Forest Stewardship Council has introduced new standards for its certification labels worldwide. Companies such as ours that are currently FSC-certified will have to adopt the new standard from July 1, 2011 onwards. For all new FSC-certification candidate companies, this new standard has been in effect since December 1, 2010.

New FSC Standards

What does the new format include?

The new format will include slight changes to wording, size and other graphic elements …

  • Label categories change from FSC Pure, FSC Mixed Sources and FSC Recycled to FSC 100%, FSC Mix and FSC Recycled.
  • Certificate Code numbers changes to a Trademark License Code number.
  • A minimum size label will be introduced for those printed pieces too small to fit the standard size label.

All existing printed pieces sporting the older labels can of course be distributed beyond the July 1st deadline. Repeat print jobs that will be produced after the deadline must switch to the new standard. We will be notifying those customers that have had an FSC certification label applied to the printed product promoting it as FSC-certified of this change and supplying an updated logo at the time of a reprint.

Please contact us if you have any questions if you have any questions regarding this new label format or if you would like more information on how to have your next print project produced under the set of strict environmental and social standards that the Forest Stewardship Council certification ensures.
